Ads-On-Bikes FAQ

About the project

Q: What is Ads-On-Bikes? Ads-On-Bikes is an attempt at developing a bicycle-based advertising program in Portland, OR.

Q: Why are you doing this? Getting around by bicycle is already an environmentally-conscious way to commute and stay in shape. We're just trying to add that extra bit of incentive to get people out there and "green up" advertising in the process.

Q: Do you have any investors? Not currently, but we are open to discussions with investors interested in this idea. If you are one of these people, please contact Ads-On-Bikes

Cyclists

Q: How are cyclists chosen? We hope to eventually make the program open to any and all cyclists. Currently we have an application process you can look into here. We cannot promise we'll accept all those who apply, but you will definitely get a response.

Q: How much do cyclists get paid? The exact amounts will vary based on the quality of your commute, but our pricing model pays cyclists on a per-mile basis. It's nothing that will come close to replacing anybody's day job and that's not the goal - it's designed to be supplemental income. However, regular commuters should find it provides some extra movie or grocery money at the end of the month, and they won't have to change anything about their daily routine.

Advertisers

Q: How does this work for advertisers? An advertiser can setup the entire process online - uploading the ad data, choosing regions and making the initial payments. As the campaign progresses the advertiser can check-in on their campaign and see exactly where their ads have been on display and what it's costing them. It's very simple to setup and monitor.

Q: What factors determine the cost of a campaign? The same factors that go into determining how much we pay the cyclist - relevance to the proximity of an advertiser's business, proximity of a route to popular biking paths and areas with sizable pedestrian-traffic, time of day and a whole host of others. Our formula is designed to protect advertisers by rewarding cyclists for the most relevant routes.
